About the Summit

Science Summit on Urban Water is a series international conference, renowned for its cutting-edge technology, planning and practical application in the field of urban water, held once every two years. The conference was co-organized by International Water Association (IWA), Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) and Guilin University of Technology (GUT). The conference has become IWA’s brand event in the field of urban water science and technology.

The summit was successfully held four times in 2011, 2014, 2016 and 2018. The 5th IWA Science Summit will be a four-day conference in Guilin in December 1-4, 2020. The chairman of the Summit is Prof. Nanqi Ren, member of CAE, from HIT. The executive co-chairs are Prof. Yu Tian from HIT and Prof. Honghao Zeng from GUT. International cooperation is critical to combat the urban water issues and challenges. It is good to see that Science Summit on Urban Water have provided a platform for promoting communications and collaborations in the world. Meanwhile, it is a platform for sharing the best practice, gathering solutions in knowledge and strengthening the bonding about digital and resilient water design.

The 2018 summit in Harbin was successful, which brought 31 global leading speakers focusing on the smart and healthy urban water system and opportunities linked to urban water issues. The 5th summit will highlight the demand for forefront water solutions and plans in which more water issues have become intertwined with the water environment. The emerging challenges incorporate stronger approaches/solutions to digital and resilience water design at present.

The conference will invite more world-renowned scientists and engineers to deliver the plenary and invited talks to provide diverse insights on issues and challenges in the water environment. The conference will also organize several sub-sessions, which are designed to propose detailed solutions to the urban water problems in China by famous scientists and engineers all over the world. During the conference period, we will also organize a forum of international conference for Young Water Professional (YWP).

The committee will select high-quality papers from the conference to publish them in IWA Journals, Water Science and Technology and its adjunct journals Water Science and Technology: Water Supply and Water Practice and Technology. We will also recommend some high-quality papers to Chinese Journal of Harbin Institute of Technology.
